Ok, so BriAnne keeps saying “we need to add a new blog entry” over and over. With some prying I finally found out that she has suddenly become a little self conscious having her “quirks” out there willy nilly in the wide open. “Yes dear” I said like a good husband, “I’ll throw something so wild and crazy out there that no one will even remember that you love the rain, to dance, etc.”
So, does anyone else find that they occasionally wake up hanging halfway off the bed, or have a pain somewhere on their body because they’ve been punched or kicked by some unsuspecting visitor(s) in the night? As fun and cute as our kids are, I’ve got to say that one way to insure a rough night’s sleep is by letting one of them sleep in our bed. Sometimes it’s because they are sick, or scared, or just can’t sleep. Katelyn’s been known to just sneak in between us without us even knowing she’s there until either BriAnne wakes up teetering on the edge of the mattress, or until BAM! I’ve been kicked SQUARELY in the nether region. I’ll be darned though if they (the kids!) don’t sleep extremely well under these circumstances. Last night little Ethan wasn’t sleeping well (nay, was screaming his cute little guts out) starting about midnight, then 1am, then 1:30 then 2:00 etc. until finally we decided to just bring him in our room so at least Katelyn could sleep. It wasn’t quite as bad as it has been in the past, but I did find myself waking up a few times the rest of the night with either a leg hanging off the bed or my face halfway onto my nightstand. BriAnne was on the very edge on her side and that sweet little Ethan was sprawled out, just as comfy as can be sleeping like a….baby. Even Ethan’s “puppy” (favorite stuffed animal) had more room on the bed than we did, no kidding. Well, I guess we can just be grateful he allowed BriAnne and I to have a couple inches of bed each, right on the edges because he certainly could have taken the whole thing if he wanted to. Thanks buddy!
I have been tagged by my sis-in-law, Tara, and this is my first game of blog tag, fun!
Whew! What a week! I had the immense pleasure this week of watching my two nieces, Kira and Drea, a few hours each day – and I tell you what, it was a blast! It helped that they are girls and happen to love everything I love – my kids, their mom and dad, dress up, doing nails, pink & purple, doing hair – “princess up-do’s”, dancing to Enya, going to the park, swimming, etc… We played all week, and had so much fun! Ethan loved being surrounded by happy playful girls, but was obviously relieved when Daddy came home each night! And all of us were definitely ready for bed when the time came! And now it’s Friday night and I’m feeling super tired, but sad that the week is over much too fast!
…And then Friday. Seeing how well Katelyn’s first day of school went, I didn’t even think her second day might have issues… well I dreaded that might happen but I didn’t really think it would, so I was shocked when she told me she didn’t want to go that morning. I couldn’t figure out what had happened to make her change her mind. Then she said something about the “lympics” and I realized that she knew that day was the gymnastics day. (Ever since the Olympics she confuses the two.) I finally told her that she could go to school and not do gymnastics after school if she didn’t want to. She then lit up and smiled and said, “okay!” She got into Amanda’s van without so much as a “I’ll miss you Mom” and was off before I knew it! That was all it seemed to take, for when she came home in the afternoon she was overflowing with excitement about gymnastics; how she “hung on the rings, and did a bridge on the mat, and did sommersaults into the squishy stuff, and walked on the beam and fell off a couple of times, and even got to do a flip on the bar!!!” After getting through all of that she told me about how she learned the letter H in class and showed me her H book and her new hat decorated with tons of stickers – her favorite little treasures in the world! We had a big discussion about how sometimes things seem scary, but that’s just because they’re new and if we just give it a try we’ll probably love it! She agreed whole heartedly and has loved school ever since, and wishes gymnastics was everyday!
