February has been a busy month for us so far! Ethan turned big 1 on the 10th, Valentines Day was of course the 14th, our anniversary was yesterday the 15th (a very happy 6 years!) and my birthday is coming up at the end of the month which I’m trying to persuade BriAnne to forget all about. And last but not least President’s day is on Monday…
BriAnne has been incredibly busy with her new calling as YW president and is loving every minute of it (as we all knew she would!) but we still manage to make time to have fun with the kids when we’re both home. A few Saturdays ago Katelyn and I made some snow people outside our condo, a regular size snowman and she insisted that the man have a little snowkid to keep him company. BriAnne brought them to life with various objects for eyes and even made a pipe out of a paint brush (we’re hoping the Shaeffermeyers don’t get offended!) I hadn’t made a snowman in years and quite enjoyed the very minimal exercise that comes with such activity.
We’re also trying to think outside of the veritable family home evening box and come up with some fun things to do that the kids will enjoy. A couple Monday’s ago BriAnne made a “Tree of Life” which she taped on our front door and then made an iron rod out of yarn which we ran the length of our hallway. We dressed up (or down, depending on character) and traded off reading Lehi’s dream while acting out what was going on. Rest assured that in the end we all followed the iron rod and made it to the gummy fruit snacks on the tree of life, which Ethan proceed to destroy once he got out of his holy highchair. Last Monday we played what we call “Book of Mormon hide and seek” which is basically the same as your standard game of hide and
seek except when the person discovers you, you have to yell out a name from the Book of Mormon. I’m not sure what we were really supposed to get out of it but Katelyn ate it up and now yells “Nephi!” whenever anyone mentions anything about the Book of Mormon or hide and seek (we apologize to her primary teachers if you are reading this). We hope your February is going as well!
